"La Maupin,” 1670-1707, Swordswoman and opera singer.

A colorful collateral connection, married to a cousin of my ancestor: Gabriel Maupin (1664-1720). 

Theophile Gautier borrowed her name and a few of her characteristics for the heroine of his novel Mademoiselle De Maupin, but in many ways his character was only a pale imitation of the original.
